After a home loss to Cape Town City FC on Saturday, Kaizer Chiefs’ DStv Premiership season in 2021-22 became even more precarious.
The defeat was Amakhosi’s fourth in a straight, and the Glamour Boys are now in serious danger of sliding out of the top eight in the rankings with only four games remaining in the season.
“I believe some of the games, especially the manner we’ve been conceding from the beginning of the season, indicate that we need to make a change.” That shift will catapult us to a new level. It will serve as a wake-up call for some of the players,” Zwane said, according to FARPost.
“It’s a case of being in your comfort zone, of thinking, ‘I know I’m going to play, I’m playing for Kaizer Chiefs.’” But what exactly are you giving back to those who have supported you through thick and thin?
“We don’t want to single out anybody, so we placed our 11 players in a competition to see who can perform the best.” Unfortunately, no results are on the way. Unfortunately, if we wish to return to our rightful place, we must change,” he concluded.
“As a team, we have to acknowledge that we have players, but that some of them aren’t talented enough to be here.” Going forward, we need to undertake some reflection as a club.”

As he considers their circumstances, Kaizer Chiefs caretaker coach Arthur Zwane remarks, “It’s embarrassing.”
Zwane made a reference to former Sundowns superstar coach Pitso Mosimane during a recent press conference about the club’s future.
“When you look at the way things are right now, you would maybe say that it will take a while but I can assure you that we are getting closer,” Zwane said on Wednesday following their defeat to Arrows. “Yes, if you look at the results – I will make an example with [former Downs] coach Pitso [Mosimane].
“When he was at Sundowns, several times he was close to the sack but the president believed in him and look at where Sundowns is. Even now that he is no longer there, it is almost two years since he left, but there is continuity.
“There is a pecking order in terms of players who are coming in at the different age groups and all that. And when they bring in players, you can see why they are doing that.
“That’s what we are trying to do right now. Not that we are copying Sundowns – I mean Kaizer Chiefs has done that several times in the past – it’s just that right now we haven’t been getting things right for some reason.”
