Update on Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar

Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar, two of super agent Rob Moore’s most well-known clients and members of the Bafana Bafana, have been updated.

McCarthy, 44, and Pienaar, 40, have long since finished their playing careers and are now involved in teaching.

While Pienaar began his coaching career at the Ajax Amsterdam academy, McCarthy has enjoyed PSL coaching experiences at Cape Town City FC and most recently AmaZulu.

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates were mentioned in connection with Benni McCarthy.

Unrelatedly, both coaches formerly played with the Dutch national team.

McCarthy had been linked to the vacant Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates positions at one point, but missed out as Amakhosi and Buccaneers administration chose to go a different path.

“You know, we’re busy figuring out what Benni should do as his next move. Steven is continually being reevaluated, Rob Moore told Soccer Laduma.

“I mean, Steven has just recently earned his UEFA professional licence. It’s an extremely important step. He’s currently enrolled in the Academy of Ajax.

However, he is currently content with what he is doing. We are clearly keeping an eye out for Benni right now, and we’re hoping to hear some news about a new challenge for him in the upcoming weeks,” Moore continued.

McCarthy represented Bafana Bafana on 62 occasions and scored three goals, whereas Pienaar played on 80 occasions for South Africa and set a record with 31 goals.

We look forward to both Mzansi football luminaries taking the next coaching position.
