Bernard Parker, the recently fired captain of Kaizer Chiefs, seemed destined to make a speedy comeback to the PSL.

Parker’s 11-year association with the Glamour Boys came to an end after the team decided not to extend his contract before the 2022–2023 campaign.

Parker participated in 26 games across all competitions and scored five goals, however his performance wasn’t good enough to persuade the club to keep him.

There were plans for Bernard Parker to retire.

Parker was supposed to retire at age 36 and transition into coaching after leaving the Kaizer Chiefs.

This currently appears doubtful, according to The South African website, as rumours indicate that he has surfaced at another top-flight team that is coached by a someone he knows very well!

According to the FARPost website, Parker has begun working out with SuperSport United, where Gavin Hunt, his former Kaizer Chiefs coach, has assumed the position of head coach.

He looks sharp and trained with the team. Anything might happen since Gavin holds him in great regard, a source told the newspaper.

In recent days, Hunt and SuperSport United have made a number of astute acquisitions, but they have also bid farewell to two crucial players in Sipho Mbule and Ronwen Williams.

After winning a hat-trick of PSL championships with SuperSport United in the 2007–2008, 2008–2009, and 2009–2010 seasons, Hunt is vying for his fifth PSL crown.

In the 2016–17 season, he experienced league success while playing for Bidvest Wits.

Pitso Mosimane is the first place with five league championships, all won with Mamelodi Sundowns.

With four victories, Hunt is now tied for second with Gordon Igesund and Ted Dumitru.

Dumitru and Kaizer Chiefs each won two championships, while Igesund won four championships at four separate clubs: Manning Ranger, Orlando Pirates, Santos, and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Can Bernard “Die Hond” Parker turn back time so that Gavin Hunt can win a fifth PSL championship, which would be a fairytale?

On Sunday, August 7, SuperSport United will host Chippa United, another of Hunt’s former teams, to open the 2022–23 DStv Premiership season.

At Lucas Moripe Stadium, the game is set to begin at 17:30.
