Rafiqul Islam, who is in his 50s, has been named as one of the victims of the Bangladesh poisoning

According to police reports, the British father and son who were poisoned and slain in Bangladesh had enigmatic “bright blue and brown fluid in their nostrils.”

In the Tajpur neighbourhood of Sylhet, Rafiqul Islam, a man in his 50s, and Michael Islam, 16, were discovered dead in a leased apartment that was locked from the inside.

Additionally discovered unconscious on Tuesday were the taxi driver’s wife Hosne Ara Islam, 40, their children Samira Islam, 19, and Sadikul Islam, 21.

The three are still being treated in Sylhet’s MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where Samira’s condition is still severe.

Despite the fact that liquids were discovered in the father and son’s noses during an autopsy, police are still unsure how the family was poisoned, according to a local news source, Prothomalo.

Police were further baffled by the hospitalised wife’s bruises on her forehead and the fact that only she and her daughter had eaten on Monday night.

The apartment lacked air conditioning as well.

Farid Uddin, the district police chief in Sylhet, stated: “How were they poisoned? How were they killed? After an investigation, we will have more information.

However, it appears to be poisonous murder at first view.

Abdul Mumin Khan, Rafiqul’s brother-in-law, told the BBC, “I didn’t know what to do or what to say.”

Everybody is depressed. Everyone is in tears. My wife is constantly sobbing. Also crying is me.

‘This is unbelievable,’ I thought. This dude is a very nice guy and is quite amiable.

His son is a wonderful, amiable young man. He is liked by everyone, and everyone likes him. His son is a really sweet boy.

On July 18, the family rented the apartment in the same building as his in-laws to assist in the care of one of their sick boys.

According to the police, they arrived in Bangladesh on July 12 and moved into the apartment where they were discovered on July 18.

According to Uddin, who spoke to WalesOnline, the incident is thought to be a case of poisoning, but an investigation is still ongoing.

After talking with the doctors about the general scenario and examining the scene, he declared: “We think this may have been a case of poisoning.”

Whether the incident was caused by poisoning or something else is still under investigation.

He further stated that the family’s close relatives also resided in the same structure.

According to Uddin, police detained Raiqul’s mother-in-law Badrunnesa, father-in-law Anfor Ali, brother-in-law Delwar Hossain, and Delwar’s wife Shova Begum for questioning.

The other persons in the building are close relatives of the dead, he added in a Tuesday interview with local media.

“We interrogated them.” Right now, we think they dozed off last night after dinner. This has to be looked at more.

On Monday, July 25, after dinner, according to the authorities, the family dozed out in the same room.

On Tuesday, between 10 and 10.30 am, their family made an attempt to unlock the apartment door.

When there were no sounds coming from inside, they phoned the police.

The five unconscious victims were found inside when police discovered the door was locked and forced it open.

The investigation, according to district superintendent Uddin, is ongoing.

‘My [family member] called me in the morning saying two passed and that three members of the family were in hospitals,’ a Cardiff neighbour of the family recalled.

When we started hearing about poisoning, I began to wonder whether it had been an accident.

At this point, nothing is known about what took place. It is very sad.

We’ve been residing close by for over 25 years. They are a peaceful family who pursue their own interests.

I have been getting so many phone calls that I couldn’t believe it.

Simply put, they were a pleasant, tidy family. They have been gone for a few weeks.

I’m a cab driver as well, and I’ve known them for around 20 years, said a second neighbour.

I’m familiar with [Rofikul]; he’s a really kind man. I learned via social media.

We simply assumed they were travelling on vacation to Bangladesh.

Riverside councilman of the Labor Party Kanaya Singh discussed the event with WalesOnline. Clearly, this is a tragic and disturbing situation, he said.

Everyone in the neighbourhood I’ve spoken to has nothing but positive things to say about the family, and our hearts go out to them.

There is also a tremendous deal of worry because many Riverside residents frequently travel to Bangladesh.

I sincerely hope that the authorities are able to solve this issue as soon as possible.
