Benni McCarthy: ‘AmaZulu owners didn’t realise the cost to run a club’

The former FC Porto and Blackburn Rovers center forward, has now reflected on his exit from the Durban club.

According to Benni McCarthy, AmaZulu’s owner, Sandile Zungu, alongside his brothers, struggled to balance the books.

“Its owners that have real good intentions you know, they are great people, very respectful people, they mean well but I think they didn’t do their due diligence about what it takes to run a football club,” McCarthy told SABC Sport.

“You buy a football club (and) it’s all amazing and not realising the cost it’s going to take to maintain…to do everything and the traveling arrangement.

“I had to even try and cut the budget. I stopped the team from camping so that we can save money,” McCarthy added.

Meanwhile, the Bafana Bafana all-time highest goalscorer is currently in England to workshop, and while he is linked with a move to possibly coach Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs next season.
