Jose Riveiro acknowledges the signing of Benni McCarthy, an Orlando Pirates player

Jose Riveiro and the Orlando Pirates have recently signed their very own “Benni McCarthy,” who has already arrived in Mayfair.

According to SoccerLaduma, Riveiro and Pirates have just signed a player they are calling their own “McCarthy.”

The most recent addition to Bucs management is a striker coach named Scott Chickelday, who hails from Europe.

Riveiro has discussed Chickelday, the newest member of the Buccaneers’ technical staff and their new striker coach.

Moreover, he has compared him to the great South African-born McCarthy.

McCarthy is the current striker coach for English giants Manchester United, performing essentially the same function as his predecessor.

Riveiro stated in the same newspaper, “Benni McCarthy is a good example; he plays a similar role with Manchester United and in this case is an additional member of our coaching staff.”

Chickelday is traveling in reverse direction to reach McCarthy. He has traveled from Europe to South Africa in order to address the Bucs’ present attack situation — a very important matter. The Sea Robbers’ offense is among the poorest in the DStv Premiership.

They have not scored a second-half goal during the entire season. Furthermore, only TS Galaxy, Marumo Gallants and Maritzburg United have the same number of goals or a worse record than the Bucs.

This is amazing given the attacking depth available at the Bucs (on paper at least) (on paper at least). They include Kermit Erasmus, Zakhele Lepasa, Deon Hotto, Monnapula Saleng, and Evidence Makgopa, a Bafana Bafana attacker.

Kwame Peprah has, however, fallen out of favor with Riveiro and is unlikely to play in the future. In addition, they have lately added PSL veteran Ndumiso Mabena to an already crowded offense that is paradoxically struggling to produce goals. They have only tallied 10 goals in 15 PSL outings to date.

Chickelday has a lot of burden on his shoulders yet he has been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers. Therefore, he has the expertise and he has the backing from Riveiro and Bucs management.

Hopefully, the Buccaneers’ offensive performance will improve quickly.
