A puppy whose owner abandoned him at San Francisco International Airport earlier this year is enjoying first-class treatment after finding a permanent home with the family of a United Airlines captain.
The owner of the dog, who had traveled from Asia, abandoned him in September, when he was just 12 weeks old, since he lacked the required documentation for the animal to remain in the United States.
The dog, dubbed Polaris after United’s business class product, was confined for three months at an animal facility at Los Angeles International Airport as United officials attempted to find a way to keep him in the country.
The airline collaborated with the San Francisco SPCA to find a new home for the six-month-old German Shepherd mix, who was finally adopted by the United Airlines captain, who threw an adoption celebration at the airport.

Lisa Feder, San Francisco SPCA’s chief of rescue and welfare, remarked, “United’s Customer Service team took on a significant challenge to ensure Polaris was safe, healthy, and placed in a loving home.”
Nearly thirty airline personnel applied to adopt Polaris, but Captain Dale was finally chosen.
United spokesperson Vincent Passafiume told NBC News, “Sometimes we deal with the most bizarre scenarios.”
