The Gauteng department of Health reported that 223 babies were born between midnight and noon on Christmas Day in the province.
Minister of Health and Wellness for Gauteng Nomoantu Nkomo-Ralehoko traveled to the Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston South to greet two pairs of twins and to celebrate the births of the other infants.
The Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital delivered 12 infants, followed by the Dr. George Mukhari Academic Hospital, which delivered eight infants.
Tertiary hospitals delivered 31 infants in total. Tembisa Hospital delivered 23 and Kalafong had eight deliveries.
Monday will mark the release of the final update, according to the agency.
Nkomo-Ralehoko emphasized that parents should file birth certificates at Home Affairs offices, which are accessible at all Gauteng health facilities.
Nkomo-Ralehoko stated, “The department wishes to express its gratitude to the healthcare workers who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that Gauteng residents receive the best service when they visit health institutions.”
“Thank you for always making the holiday season joyful and full of love for mothers and their infants. We wish all parents well and encourage moms to breastfeed their infants, as it is necessary and offers numerous health benefits.”
Nkomo-Ralehoko finished by stating, “We urge parents to immunize their children to prevent them from infectious diseases. All government clinics and Community Healthcare Centres offer free immunisation.”
