Two patients shot dead, cop injured inside New Somerset Hospital

Sea Point police had reportedly taken a 35-year-old suspect to the hospital for medical evaluation when a 40-year-old man took a police officer’s firearm and fired several shots.

Police later disarmed and arrested the suspect. The identities of the deceased are yet unknown. The police officer is also reportedly fighting for his life in hospital.

The Western Cape Government said the circumstances are unknown on how the man managed to obtain a firearm but are currently being investigated.

“The man then shot two patients  who were in his  proximity. Both died on the scene and the 32-year-old police official was seriously injured. SAPS officials on the scene subsequently disarmed the suspect and arrested him.”
