Pool player who shot 7 people dead was also shot dead after an altercation with police

After losing a bet on a pool game, Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira, 30, and Ezequias Souza Ribeiro, 27, shot dead seven people, including a 12-year-old girl, in a bar in Sinop, Mato Grosso, Brazil in February.

Reports suggest that Oliveira lost around 4,000 reais (£640) and challenged the winner for a second game but lost again. When the younger man made fun of Oliveira’s loss, he fetched a shotgun from a nearby car, and together with Ribeiro, they gunned down innocent bystanders.

Oliveira remains at large, while Ribeiro was found in a wooded area close to the city and was later shot by police after an altercation. A task force was set up to search for the shooters and police found the rifle and truck used in the massacre.

The victims were named by Brazilian police as Larissa Frasao de Almeida, Orisberto Pereira Sousa, Adriano Balbinote, Getulio Rodrigues Frasao Junior, Josue Ramos Tenorio, and Maciel Bruno de Andrade Costa, with Elizeu Santos da Silva dying later in hospital.
