Hilaria Baldwin has finally hit one million Instagram followers, but many are not pleased with how this occurred.
Alec Baldwin has been labeled “shallow” by some social media users after he encouraged people to follow his wife on the app in postings building up to her 39th birthday on January 6.
“One million followers is all that matters on a birthday? One troll remarked on Alec’s initial video post, “Give me a break,” while another asked, “Is that truly important in life?”
Others were perplexed as to why Alec felt the need to share five separate postings on Hilaria’s number of followers on his page.
“With all due respect, could you please explain why this was so crucial?” Others added comments such as “Could you be any more shallow?” and “Get a grip!” I’m almost embarrassed for you for even asking !! How trivial!”
Others referred to the issue surrounding Hilaria’s iconic Spanish accent, in which she was discovered lying about her Spanish origin.
“*cringes in fake Spanish*,” read one comment, while another joked, “Does Hilaria magically become actually Spanish when she reaches one million followers?”
Fans began criticizing the “Notting Hill” actor on Thursday, after he posted a selfie video in which he said, “I want as many of you as possible to follow my wife on Instagram so they can wish her a happy birthday.”
He went on to ask, “Would you do it for me? Would you be interested in following my wife on Instagram? Please?”
The former “Saturday Night Live” cast member, sporting a scruffy gray beard and a black t-shirt, referred to Hilaria as his “favorite person” and stated that she was “just centimeters away from a million followers” on the photo-sharing app.
“As a birthday gift or even as a simple gesture, would you follow my wife on Instagram?” he implored.
With the assistance of their nine-year-old daughter, Carmen, the mother of seven eventually surpassed the milestone.
“Please and thank you for following my mom on Instagram,” she said in a video posted on Alec’s account.
The pleased father then stated, “Today is the day!”
However, the backlash did not end on Instagram. Other reviewers discussed Alec’s videos on Twitter, calling them as “bizarre” and “embarrassing.”
Perhaps if he had said Por Favor? A person made a joke, while another claimed to be experiencing “second hand embarrassment.”
In addition to Carmen, the 2012-married couple has six other children: Rafael, 7, Leonardo, 6, Romeo, 4, Eduardo, 2, Lucia, 2, and 3-month-old Ilaria.
The Oscar nominee shares a 27-year-old daughter with his ex-wife Kim Basinger, to whom he was married from 1993 until 2002.
