Three men arrested for the possession of a cocaine consignment worth an estimated value of over R 400 million

Three men were taken into custody on Thursday for the possession of a cocaine consignment with an estimated value of over R 400 million by the Hawks, Crime Intelligence, and Western Cape Traffic.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said, “It is reported that on Thursday, 4 August 2022, the team followed up on information about a truck, suspected to be transporting drugs. An operation was organised on the N1 freeway and the truck was spotted at Winelands Engen garage travelling towards Cape Town“.

When the truck was stopped and searched, a significant amount of drugs were discovered concealed in false wooden boards in the back of the truck.

On August 8, the three men, who are 39, 42, and 47 years old, are scheduled to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court.
