Michael Gordon pleads guilty to cocaine possession

Michael Gordon, a former Gold Coast Titans player, must wait a nervous two weeks to see if his aspirations to coach rugby league can ever be realised again.

In November 2020, the 38-year-old was detained at his Casuarina house as part of a sting operation targeting the trafficking of cocaine and MDMA across the NSW–QLD boundary.

Before retiring at the end of 2019, Gordon, who played 261 NRL games, was accused on two counts of supplying a prohibited drug and two counts of carrying a prohibited drug.

He admitted to having cocaine in his possession but refuted allegations that he supplied drugs.

The former Blues Origin star made his final court appearance on Tuesday, accompanied by wife Tess and wearing a dark blue suit and tie.

The judgement of Magistrate Geoff Dunlevy will not be made until Tuesday, August 16.

It was a disgraceful way to cap off a playing career that saw him play for the Panthers, Sharks, Eels, Roosters, and Titans, among other teams.

Within hours of his arrest, the Titans issued a succinct statement announcing that Gordon will no longer serve in that capacity for the team.

The NSW Rugby League requested that the dispute be resolved before Gordon could start working as a coach for the Tweed Coast Raiders, which put the move on hold as well.

As they exited the court, the pair declined to remark to the waiting media.
