The arrests are the result of an intelligence-driven operation in Killarney Gardens, a Cape Town industrial neighbourhood.

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, members of the Maitland Flying Squad were on patrol when they got word that goods from a kidnapped truck was in a warehouse in Killarney Gardens.

“The members proceeded to the address, and upon arrival at the premises, they accosted two men who were visibly nervous and could not even respond to questions posed at them.”

Swartbooi said that the members inspected the whole property and discovered a large quantity of catalytic converters.

“While the team was busy with the seizure, a man, claiming to be the manager, arrived at the business premises. He was stopped in his tracks before trying to evade an arrest.”

The officers examined his vehicle and discovered additional converters hidden in his car’s truck, according to the authorities. They apprehended the suspect and seized the catalytic converters.

The suspects are accused of possessing allegedly stolen property. They will appear in Cape Town Magistrate Court soon.
