Police arrest suspects in three isolated incidents with drugs and unlicensed firearms and ammunition

As they detained suspects in three separate events on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, police officers in the Western Cape continued their efforts to purge their communities of illegally obtained weapons, ammunition, and drugs.

Around 15:30, Operation Restore police officers responded to a tip and stopped at a house in Saldanha Bay’s Angel Street. When they arrived, they combed the entire property and seized 14 x 9mm rounds of ammunition. A 41-year-old guy was taken into custody and charged with having unlicensed ammunition.

In a separate incident, at around 19:00, Elsiesriver police were hard at work patrolling in Avonwood. They saw a child who appeared to be quite anxious when he saw the patrol car as they entered Hazel Street.

The officers stopped the boy, searched him, and seized a homemade zip firearm and ammunition. The 15-year-old was taken into custody and charged with having an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In Manenberg, police officers from the Maitland Flying Squad conducted a stop and search operation. When they searched a vehicle, they found drugs with a street worth of about R45 000. Three men between the ages of 28 and 34 were taken into custody and charged with drug possession.

The suspects will be required to appear in court on the aforementioned charges in the Vredenburg, Goodwood, and Athlone Magistrate courts once charged.
