The police feel there may be a connection between the security firm and the arrest of a double-murder suspect and his accomplices.

Colonel Robert Netshiunda, a police spokesperson, said that this confiscation followed last week’s arrest of double-murder suspect Siphamandla Gumede and his three accomplices.

“It is believed that the security company is linked to the arrested suspect,” says Netshiunda.

“Subsequent investigations by the Provincial Investigations and Tracking Task Team (PITTT) in conjunction with officers from the Rapid Rail Police Unit (RRPU) pointed the police in the direction of a security company in Amanzimtoti in KwaZulu-Natal,” says Netshiunda.

“With ‘Operation Qondisa’ leaving nothing to chance, police raided the company on Tuesday, 20 December 2022 and found it to be in contravention of Section 102 of the Firearms Control Act, Act No.60 of 2000.”

Netshiunda reports that five rifles and four pistols have been confiscated and will undergo ballistic testing to determine whether or not they were used in the conduct of crimes inside the province.

Additionally, the police confiscated 197 rounds of ammunition of different calibres.

The police would like to commend members of the community who actively engage in crime prevention activities and inform the police of any illegal activity occurring in neighbourhoods.

“Security companies, like any entity within the security cluster, are guided by legislations and any breach of law will not be tolerated,” says Netshiunda.
