POLICE ARREST THREE SUSPECTS FOR CABLE THEFT

The South African Police have detained three people in connection with the theft of cables from four substations south of Johannesburg over the weekend, which caused severe power disruptions.

In the south of Johannesburg, the robbers took wires from the Nancefield, Eldorado Park, Nirvana, and Soweto substations.

According to City Power, three individuals were detained for cable theft while on route to a local scrapyard to sell the stolen cable.

Eldorado Park and Lenasia were without electricity due to cable theft at the Nancefield Substation. Five wires were apparently cut here.

The theft of cables in Soweto caused a power outage in the vicinity of Bargwanath Hospital and Power earlier on the same day.

Technicians restored electricity to the substations Eldorado and Nirvana, which were also affected by cable theft.

The restoration of the Nancefield Substation will need a great length of time, and we ask the community to be patient.

Although City Power is doing everything necessary to restore electricity, cable theft continues to be one of the greatest obstacles to providing services.

“We would like to thank the community who played a role in the arrest of the suspects. We continue to call upon residents to be vigilant and report any destruction to our infrastructure,” City Power stated.

The suspects will soon appear in court.
