Taxi driver pushes woman to the ground after she refused to pay an $80 fare

The shocking incident of a taxi driver pushing a woman to the ground after she refused to pay an $80 fare was captured in a video.

The incident took place in Rhodes, a suburb in Sydney’s inner west. The video shows the driver confronting the passenger on the footpath, trying to drag her back into the vehicle.

The woman repeatedly screamed at the driver, “Don’t touch me. It’s assault!” and slapped him in the face.

The driver repeatedly tried to push and grab her, forcing her back to the wall of a storefront.

Stunned onlookers gathered around the pair, with one recording the incident as it escalated. One bystander urged the driver to let the passenger go, saying, “What are you going to get out of her?”

The passenger repeatedly screamed for the driver to move out of her way. Moments later, the driver pushed her onto the ground before standing over her as she cried. A man off-camera is heard saying, “Man, that’s too far.”

The footage of the incident was uploaded to Facebook, where social media users had differing opinions. Some slammed the bystanders for telling the driver to let the passenger go, saying, “That $80 could be what this hardworking man was looking for to feed his family for the night.”

Others defended the woman, saying the driver should have backed away, adding, “He can’t treat her like that regardless.”

Daily Mail Australia contacted NSW Police for comment on the incident.
