Watch as intoxicated customer beats and pushes taxi driver

A taxi driver is brutally attacked by an intoxicated passenger, who then pushes him out of the moving vehicle in shocking dashcam video.

When Ruben Commons, 25, was asked for a fare up front in September, he started the furious attack that left the driver in need of immediate medical treatment.

In horrifying video, Commons can be seen continuously striking and kicking the victim as he jumps over the dashboard and mounts the driver’s side.

During the assault in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, Commons kicked the victim in the head, knocking him unconscious before making an unsuccessful effort to take the cab.

Commons made an appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, February 2, and was sentenced to 32 months in prison as well as a $187 victim restitution order.

The victim, who worked for a nearby taxi company, was on duty when a man and a woman approached him in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, requesting to be transported home.

Even though he could see Commons was intoxicated, he agreed to transport them both and instructed them to occupy the rear seats.

According to testimony given in court, Commons tried to open the driver’s door and sit on the driver’s lap before ever getting in the vehicle.

He hesitantly entered the front passenger seat after being instructed to do so, at which point he became aggressive and yelled commands at the driver.

The taxi driver then requested payment in full just after 1.20am, which led Commons to lose his cool and threaten the victim while calling him a “tramp.”

He then tossed a water-filled plastic bottle over the driver, hitting him in the head and leading the victim to attempt to stop the vehicle.

Commons forced the victim out of the moving vehicle during the ensuing fight and resumed the vicious assault outside.

He continued to severely kick the driver in the head, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious, and then attempted to flee by snatching the cab.

Only around 50 yards were covered, however, when he exited and let the automobile smash into a parked car.

Following his arrest, Arnold resident Commons entered a guilty plea to charges of causing great bodily injury, aggravated car theft, and property damage.

Following the incident, Nottinghamshire Police Detective Constable Colin Jones said: “This was an act of pure drunken aggression against someone who was just going about his business.

“No one deserves to be abused this way or brutally beaten till they lose consciousness.

The dashcam video captures “Commons’” activities that evening, which demonstrate his utter disregard for the general public and the cruelty of his treatment of a wholly defenseless guy.

“I hope that his term will not only provide the victim some solace, but also allow Commons some time to think back on what he did that evening and make it clear to him that acting in this manner can never be condoned by any police agency.”
