A backlash erupted after The View’s Sunny Hostin called for the GOP to be destroyed and labeled Republicans a “party of racial supremacy” and “gun killings. ”
While discussing previous mass shootings like the one that occurred at a Tulsa hospital earlier this week, 53-year-old Hostin was not hesitant to voice her viewpoint.
After admitting to not always agreeing with Joy [Behar] – who started the topic – the native New Yorker began shouting, although she did agree with her co-host, 79, on Republicans.
Behar said earlier in the segment: ‘I always say: “Don’t vote for Republicans.”’
Sonny agreed, stating: ‘So I’m now with you, Joy. Get rid of Republicans, get rid of the party. Because as the party stands now, it’s the party of white supremacy, it’s the party of insurrectionists, the party of massacres at this point. It’s the party… you can’t trust it.’
‘You can’t trust Mitch McConnell and his word, ever, because he’s a filthy liar and has been for quite some time,’ she blasted. ‘Republicans get in lockstep against gun safety because all they care about is power.
‘Get the AR-15s off the planet, in my view. Get rid of bump stocks, get rid of these weapons of war and it’s not going to happen with Republicans in power,’ she said.
Guest host Tara Setmayer also agreed, saying: ‘That’s why I left the Republican party.’
Behar’s most recent attacks on the Republican Party have been on gun violence, which she discussed on Thursday’s show.
When she told viewers that more than 600 children would die as a result of gun violence in 2022, the Williamsburg native became animated and emotional, emphasizing the need of voting out Republicans.
Since the May 24 Uvalde shooting, the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) has documented 20 more recent shootings. A mass shooting, according to the GVA, occurs when four or more individuals are shot or killed.
According to the group, May 26 is the only day in the last week without a mass shooting.
