Sundowns Ladies and UWC draw 1-1

Sunday’s pivotal match at Tuks Stadium between Mamelodi Sundowns and the University of the Western Cape ended 1-1.

UWC won a share of the spoils as Ntombifikile Ndlovu equalized Chuene Morifi’s initial goal for the Brazilians.

Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala deployed a starting eleven that included Sedilame Bosija in goal, Regina Mogolola, Zanele Nhlapho, and Tiisetso Makhubola on defense.

In midfield, Chuene Morifi, Boitumelo Rabale, Oratile Mokwena, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, and Lehlogonolo Mashigo supported Chantelle Esau and Lelona Daweti, who started in attack.

Banyana Ba Style began the game on the front foot, with Chuene Morifi making a number of offensive runs and testing the opposing goalie from close range.

Morifi broke the deadlock 10 minutes before the halftime break as Coach Tshabalala’s team continued to exert pressure. It was her fourth goal of the season.

In the latter minutes of the first half, Boitumelo Rabale came near but was unable to convert her opportunity.

After halftime, the visitors regained their footing and were rewarded with a goal by Ntombifikile Ndlovu.

Boitumelo Rabale, Lehlogonolo Mashigo, and Oratile Mokwena vacated their positions to make place for Lerato Kgasago, Melinda Kgadiete, and Thalea Smidt, respectively.

Despite the late substitution of Thembelihle Masibi for Lelona Daweti, the Sundowns Ladies were denied numerous opportunities to clinch the victory.

Despite having difficulty breaking down a strong UWC team, Kappa was satisfied with his team’s effort.

“It was a very difficult match against one of the most in-form teams in the league right now. As I mentioned prior to the game, Thinasonke Mbuli has done an excellent job with this team, so I am not shocked by their boldness on the field. Even though we would have preferred to win the game, I am pleased with how valiantly we fought. There is a great deal of football to be played in the coming weeks, and we will learn from our mistakes and move on to the next game, as stated by Kappa.

Due to the draw, Sundowns Ladies now have 46 points after collecting 15 victories and one tie in 17 games. The Brazilians have scored 72 goals, the most in the league, while conceding only 10 goals, the best defense in the league. Additionally, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have a colossal goal difference of +63.

Congratulations on the team’s hard-fought point!
