The witness who discovered a corpse in the River Wyre not far from where Nicola Bulley vanished has spoken his or her heartbreaking first words.
There is undoubtedly a corpse down there, they said, adding that it was a woman’s body.
On January 27, mother Nicola vanished while walking her dog in St. Michael’s on Wyre, Lancashire.
While it has not yet been properly identified, police reported finding a corpse in the River Wyre yesterday, Sunday, February 19.
A guy and a lady who were strolling along the river informed them about it.
The pair, who had pale faces, was sitting on the wall and vaping while the police desperately yelled for help.
The guy informed the first officer at the site that “It was a corpse. It is situated there. That was a woman’s body. There is definitely a corpse there.
I saw a guy, a woman, and two police officers on the slope, the witness said.
“I overheard the guy discussing something in the brush with the cops.
“The blues and twos were going and the police vehicles were flying down the road. A few minutes later, a police officer arrived and brought out his drone. The helicopter finally showed after after five minutes. I walked 200 yards down the road when the officers told me to get out.
“The guy was still pointing towards the riverside, and I could still see him plainly. Later, while the blues and twos were moving, additional police vehicles sped down the road. The whole road was cleaned.
To supervise the body’s retrieval, Senior Investigating Officer Det Supt Rebecca Smith arrived at the scene. There was also a white forensic tent set up at the spot.
A mile downstream from where Nicola disappeared, the corpse was discovered.
Inzamam Rashid, a Sky News journalist, described how he had spoken with Nicola’s family. They are really upset, and they will be hurting much tonight, he added.
“We were alerted today at 11.36am to reports of a corpse in the River Wyre,” Lancashire Police stated in a statement.
A corpse was regrettably found when an underwater search team and specialized police officers arrived on the site, entered the water, and searched the area. We cannot yet confirm if this is Nicola Bulley since no official identification has been made. The process of identifying the corpse is still continuing.
“At this time, the cause of the death is unknown. We have updated Nicola’s family on the situation and are thinking of them at this really trying time.
