Steelers backup Mason Rudolph appears to mock Mike Tomlin’s quarterback evaluation

Mason Rudolph, the Steelers’ third-string quarterback, disagrees with head coach Mike Tomlin’s recent evaluation of the team’s depth chart.

Kenny Pickett entered concussion protocol during Sunday’s 16-14 loss to the Ravens, leaving the status of starting quarterback Kenny Pickett in limbo this week. On Tuesday, Tomlin discussed the possibility of veteran quarterbacks Mason Rudolph and Mitch Trubisky sharing playing time.

“If he is unable to work, we will divide those repetitions between Mitch and Mason,” Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stated, according the team’s website. “We will put both players through their paces in practice in an effort to determine who is better as we approach the conclusion of our work.”

Rudolph, who is in his seventh season with the Steelers, has been inactive throughout the season, but Trubisky, who signed a two-year deal with the organization in March, has alternated starting and backup duties with Pickett. Tuesday, Tomlin compared Trubisky and Rudolph’s positions to “2 and 2A,” a comparison with which Rudolph appeared to disagree.

With four games remaining this season, it is uncertain whether or not Rudolph will play. Rudolph’s future with the team is in question, but he will be ready to play on Sunday against the Panthers if he is called upon.

Rudolph stated, “My sole concern is certainly winning the game.” If I am selected, let’s go win the game.

In 10 career starts, the former third-round pick has a record of 5-4-1. In addition, he has thrown 16 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.

At 5-8, the Steelers have the worst record in the AFC North.
