St. Louis City SC sees improvement after recruiting ex-Chiefs star Njabulo Blom

In recent months, Nkosingiphile Blom joined the United States Major League Soccer (MLS) club, St. Louis City, following the end of his three-and-a-half-year tenure at Kaizer Chiefs.

The former Amakhosi youth development player has signed with St. Louis City until 2024, with the option to extend. Blom enjoyed a standout MLS debut after being named on the bench and coming on as a substitute in the 17th minute during St. Louis City’s 3-2 victory against Austin FC. He fitted in immediately, and according to statistics, he recorded impressive figures during his extended cameo.

St. Louis City identified the former Chiefs playmaker as the perfect fit for their club. Although Blom’s contract with Chiefs was expiring, their sporting director, Lutz Pfannensteil, recently revealed that they held the 23-year-old in high regard.

Pfannensteil noted that they were looking for a very aggressive central defensive midfielder who was a ball-winner and liked to defend forward. They scouted players from all over the world, but Blom was their first choice. The South African coach of St. Louis City, Bradley Carnell, may be able to take Blom’s career to the next level.

Blom’s performance during his debut would have undoubtedly filled him with confidence, and it will be interesting to see if he is rewarded with a starting berth in future games. The midfielder’s impressive statistics during his cameo are proof that he can make a positive contribution to St. Louis City’s campaign in the MLS.
