On Tuesday, 384 additional COVID-19 cases were found in South Africa, increasing the total number of illnesses that have been confirmed in laboratories to 3 995 784 since the epidemic.

After 152 people tested positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, Gauteng saw the majority of new cases.

The province is followed by 64 cases in KwaZulu-Natal, 65 cases in the Western Cape, 34 cases in the Eastern Cape, and 20 cases in the Free State, with the remaining provinces reporting fewer than 20 illnesses.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) estimates that this increase reflects a positive rate of 3.7 percent.

In addition, 32 additional deaths—two of which happened in the previous 24 to 48 hours—brought the total to 101 847.

The data is based on 25 776 312 tests that were carried out in both the public and private sectors.

The seven-day moving average daily number of cases has climbed, the NICD announced, adding that “there has been an increase of 23 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.”

In the meanwhile, the World Health Organization has received reports of 547 901 157 confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide, including 6 339 899 fatalities.
