South Africa now has 3 996 441 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 after 657 people tested positive on Wednesday

Following 657 positive tests on Wednesday, there are currently 3 996 441 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Africa.

After 52 residents were verified to have contracted the virus, Gauteng reported the most new cases in the previous 24 hours, followed by 13 in the Western Cape, 8 in the Eastern Cape, and 7 in KwaZulu-Natal.

The Northern Cape experienced no illnesses, while the other provinces each reported fewer than five cases.

The positivity rate is now 4.8%, according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).
