Wednesday, a man named by his family as Mandla Xulu, 52, shot and killed himself at the Hillbrow police station.
Mandla vanished on Wednesday morning without a trace. According to AllAfrica, he left his wife at home without informing her of his destination.
Bubula Xulu, the brother of Mandla, went to the Hillbrow Police Station to submit a missing person’s complaint. Instead, the officers took him to the lifeless body of his brother.
Officers report that Mandla ran into the charge office at 11 a.m., claiming that he was being pursued. He stated that he required police assistance. The man’s hysteria prevented him from being reasoned with.
Before the on-duty officers could intervene, he drew a revolver from his holster, pointed it towards his body, and pulled the trigger.
“I did not arrive at the police station expecting to see my brother dead. “I was shocked when police officials brought me into the station to determine if the man who had committed suicide was the individual I was seeking,” he added.
The police led him to the body of Mandla, which was lying in a pool of blood.
Additionally, a man was rescued after attempting suicide at the Virgin Active building.
His brother stated that he did not believe anyone was pursuing Mandla. According to his sibling, he has previously exhibited this type of “unstable behavior.”
A few years before, he displayed comparable symptoms of mental illness, in which he too believed that individuals were chasing him.
Mandla was a security guard at one of the Hillbrow stores.
POLICE SPOKESPERSON WEIGHS IN Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo, the provincial police spokesperson for Gauteng, stated that an inquest docket has been filed to investigate the event.
The community members and police officers who witnessed the shooting are undergoing counseling.
