SAGs may be Christina Applegate’s “last awards show as an actor” amid MS fight

As her struggle with multiple sclerosis (MS) continues to wreak havoc on her health, Christina Applegate fears the forthcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards will be her final awards event.

“It’s probably my last awards show as an actor, so it’s kind of a big deal,” the 51-year-old actor told the LA Times of the SAG Awards on February 27.

“Right now, I’m not capable of waking up at 5 a.m. and working 12 to 14 hours on set; I simply don’t have it in me.”

The “Dead To Me” actress was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in early 2021 and remained candid about how the disease, which affects the brain and nerves, forced her to halt her career.

Applegate is forced to undertake a number of adjustments, including putting her acting career on hold, which results in her not attending award presentations.

Her MS diagnosis coincided with the third and final season of Netflix’s “Dead To Me,” for which she was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series by the Screen Actors Guild.

Applegate acknowledged that she was “a wreck every day” throughout her struggle, although she emphasized that “most of that wreckage occurred in my trailer by myself.”

“There were times when I would break down on set and say, ‘I can’t, we have to take a break, I need a half-hour,’ and everyone was so understanding that it was fine,” she said, noting how “outstanding” the cast and crew were at meeting her demands.

The diagnosis of multiple sclerosis has led Applegate to rely on a cane.

Jen Harding is portrayed by Applegate in the Netflix series. The nomination represents her sixth SAG nomination.

Applegate has stated that she is excited to explore voiceover work as she prepares to retire from award ceremonies.

The “Anchorman” actress stated that she is currently “doing a ton of voice-overs to ensure that my daughter is fed and we have a place to live.”

Applegate had stated that “Dead To Me” could be her last acting role.

In November, the “Married… with Children” star told Variety, “Jen Harding is possibly the last character I’ll ever play.”

“Because of my illness, I do not know how capable I am. However, this was a gift. This was given to me as a present.”

Also in November, Applegate disclosed that she gained 40 pounds as a result of her Multiple Sclerosis.

She also stated that she had difficulty “walking without a cane” due to the ailment.
