We are not involved in the arrest of Magashule’s former PA – NPA

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had nothing to do with the US-based arrest of Ace Magashule’s former personal assistant (PA).

Moroadi Cholota served as Magashule’s assistant when the former ANC secretary-general was Free State’s premier. She will appear in court for violating the Immigration Act of the United States.

Cholota was apprehended in January in Washington, DC for overstaying her visit in the country after her student visa expired.

The NPA’s spokesperson, Brigadier Thandi Mbambo, stated, “The Hawks did not arrest Ms. Cholota. According to the available information, she was presumably arrested by U.S. authorities for visa-related difficulties.”

Christopher Singo, spokesman for the Hawks in Free State, stated, “She was arrested, but her arrest has nothing to do with the Hawks or the asbestos case in Free State.” We are unable to comment on her arrest.

Cholota is accused in the R255 million asbestos contract handed to businessmen Edwin Sodi and Igo Mpambani. Mpambani was executed by shooting in Sandton, Johannesburg, in 2018.

At the time of his death, the authorities confirmed that Mpambani had withdrawn large amounts of cash from an ATM, but his killers chose not to steal the cash.
