Magashule is back in court for a case of asbestos contract fraud

Former Free State premier Ace Magashule is scheduled to return to the Bloemfontein High Court on Friday to address 21 fraud and corruption charges relating to an R225 million asbestos removal tender fraud that occurred during his stint as premier.

Magashule, along with ten other individuals and five companies, is accused.

The case has been rescheduled for September 2022 so that Magashule, Edwin Sodi, and former Free State human settlements chief Thabane Zulu can petition the Supreme Court of Appeal to reverse a lower court’s judgement that denied their earlier request for a stay of prosecution. Magashule was released on bail of R200,000.

The State filed paperwork to have Magashule’s former personal assistant, Moroadi Cholota, returned from the United States to testify in court last year.

The appeals court denied Magashule’s motion to reverse his ANC ban in January 2022.
