Rolf Harris sued by woman for molestation during an Australian adventure camp in 1982

Rolf Harris, the disgraced paedophile, is facing a lawsuit from a woman who alleges he sexually assaulted her at an Australian adventure camp when she was ten years old.

According to reports, the woman claims Harris molested her while she was at a school holiday camp in Melbourne in 1982.

Harris, who has neck cancer, was convicted of 12 indecent assaults against four underage girls at Southwark Crown Court in 2014 and was sentenced to six years in prison. He was released in 2017.

The woman, who remains anonymous, alleges that Harris sexually assaulted her while she was visiting Camp Manyung in Mount Eliza, south of Melbourne, in 1982.

Harris is said to have been performing at the camp at the time. According to the alleged victim, during one of Harris’ performances, she and other children were introduced to the disgraced celebrity.

She claimed to have given Harris a card and that he had sat next to her. The woman said that she had spilt wax on her dress and was trying to pick it off when Harris offered to help.

However, the woman claims the encounter quickly became sinister. Harris allegedly dragged her onto his lap and sexually assaulted her, moving his hands up her leg and under her skirt.

The woman stated that she felt petrified, terrified, and panicked during the assault. She claimed to have tried to call and scream before running away from Harris. Court documents allege that the woman told a staff member at the camp about the abuse, but Harris called her a liar and left the camp.

The alleged victim is also suing the State of Victoria and OzChild over a string of separate allegations of abuse while under their care as a foster child.

The woman’s principle lawyer, John Rule of legal firm Maurice Blackburn, said his client is claiming damages for battery against Harris, adding that the alleged assault caused her permanent psychiatric harm.

A trial date is expected to be set for early 2024. Rule said that the woman’s allegations have always been consistent and that they have been able to corroborate Harris’ presence in Australia at the same time and in Victoria.
