Pub landlady stabs teen waitress over imagined romance, court hears

After falsely believing the youngster was dating her spouse, the landlady of a local bar attacked her waitress twice.

Hannah Pritchett was “laughing” at Luisa Santos, 47, who then demanded that her husband Pedro choose between the 18-year-old and their family.

Santos, according to testimony given in court, attacked Miss Pritchett in front of onlookers while using a huge fish knife from the pub kitchen after failing to get him to address her concerns.

The Portuguese landlady’s screams of “bitch, you bitch” as she assaulted were heard by the jury.

She was reportedly observed whipping eggs in a flurry that morning and said, “It’s her,” when asked what was wrong. He preferred her to our family.

Any notion that Miss Pritchett and Santos’s husband, a chef who had the pub’s lease, had a “inappropriate connection” was “completely misconceived,” prosecutor Peter Grieves-Smith told the jury.

The incident at The Three Horseshoes in Princethorpe, Warwickshire, was allegedly seen by CCTV and happened only moments after Miss Pritchett arrived one Saturday afternoon in May.

Santos approached Miss Pritchett, who had only been working at the pub for six weeks, as shown on video taken from the opposite side of the bar, and twice drove the blade into her left side from behind.

The waitress reportedly fainted after running to her vehicle in the parking lot. The jury was told that she had two “deep” wounds and that she had only managed to live because of “amazing luck.”

At the time of the incident, Miss Pritchett, who was dating, said she was unaware that the landlady believed she was having an affair with her husband.

Santos had already been guilty to intentional knife possession and intentional injury, the prosecution said the jury.

He said that they would have to determine if Santos meant to kill or not. Santos, who lived above the bar with her husband and kids, denies trying to kill anybody.

The trial goes on.
