Police in the United Kingdom have detained a man and a 19-year-old woman for the Christmas Eve bar shooting death of beauty shop employee Elle Edwards.
Edwards, 26 years old, was fatally shot in the head in front of her companions at The Lighthouse Inn bar in Wallasey Village, Merseyside, before midnight on Saturday.
Four additional diners were injured in the attack, which sent shockwaves through a country where gun violence is uncommon.
BBC News stated that on Monday, police announced the arrest of a 30-year-old man from Tranmere on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in connection with Edwards’ “cold-blooded shooting.”
A 19-year-old Rock Ferry lady was also arrested on accusations of murder conspiracy.
Both suspects have been detained for interrogation. As of Tuesday, their identities remain unknown.
Previously, Detective Superintendent Sue Coombs of the Merseyside Police stated that Edwards was not the shooter’s original target.
Coombs indicated on Monday that the investigation into the murder is ongoing and requested members of the public with information about the incident to come forward.
“We will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to justice, and I urge anyone with information to contact us,” she said.
Edwards was dancing inside the crowded tavern when shooting started just before midnight.
Sunday during a press conference, Detective Inspector Coombs stated that the shooter fired gunfire toward the entrance.
Friends reported the moment Edwards collapsed with a gunshot wound to the head and fell to the floor.
A woman performed CPR on the young woman prior to the arrival of medical personnel.
Edwards was transported to Arrow Park Hospital, where she was subsequently confirmed dead.
A 28-year-old male was also critically injured in the incident and remained hospitalized on Tuesday.
A 22-year-old male was injured in the legs, a 24-year-old man was injured in the hand, and a 33-year-old man was injured in the wrist.
Edwards worked as a beautician at a salon in Wirral called Nova Studio, where her coworkers lamented her untimely passing.
A note on the beauty salon’s Instagram page stated, “Heaven has gained the most beautiful angel.”
“We are all heartbroken, thinking of all of your family right now Elle.”
Lucy Edwards, who had been at the bar with the victim but had left prior to the shooting, visited the crime scene on Tuesday and laid flowers at the makeshift monument that has grown outside the establishment.
Her card stated, “To my Elle May, I will always love you; you will never leave my side.”
