Princess Anne misses the customary Christmas church service because she has a cold

On Christmas Day, nearly all of the senior royals attended the family’s first Christmas celebration in Sandringham since the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

However, one noteworthy character was absent: Princess Anne, the late monarch’s only daughter.

Following reports that she is suffering from a cold, the Princess Royal was unable to attend the family gathering and was presumably resting.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the 72-year-old had participated in 214 engagements since the beginning of the year, making her the most active royal of 2022.

Today, Princess Anne was prevented from attending the customary Christmas church service in Sandringham. When her husband, Sir Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, was diagnosed with Covid in December of last year, the Princess Royal did not test positive.

Christmas Day service was attended by Lady Louise Windsor and her mother, the Countess of Wessex.

Royal observers also noted her absence from another family gathering: Kate, Princess of Wales’s Christmas carol service, which aired last night on ITV1.

The equestrian enthusiast was unable to attend because she was at the London International Horse Show at the ExCel on the day of the service at Westminster Abbey.

So far in 2022, Princess Anne has participated in more royal engagements than the Queen Consort and the Princess of Wales combined.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children, participated in today’s traditional walkabout and church service at Sandringham.

Today, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis strolled the estate with their parents to the delight of the people.

Today’s walkabout was also Charles’s first as king, and it occurred prior to the broadcast of his first Christmas address as king in the afternoon.

Charles and Camilla, the Queen Consort, are likely to remain on the estate for the duration of the holiday season, at least until until the new year.
