Steve, who participated in Kate Garraway’s ITV documentary Finding Derek, was hospitalized with Covid just three days after then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson instituted the first lockdown in the United Kingdom.

DJ was placed in a medically induced coma and diagnosed with Acute hemorrhagic leukoencephalitis, a rare neurological illness (AHLE).

Bobby asserts that persons with AHLE “often do not survive a week” and considers it a “miracle” that his brother is still alive.

The family recognizes that “things could be far worse” and is hopeful that Steve will return home this year.

Bobby told The Mirror, “His soul is still here, I know he can still hear us, and we’re doing our best to bring him home.”

In the past three weeks, his wife observed him wiggle his toe, which demonstrates his responsiveness.

He continued, “Everything is proceeding in the proper direction.” I am certain that he is currently engaged in combat.’

Bobby, the twin brother of Steve, describes his brother’s recovery as a “miracle” and a sign that “everything is heading in the right direction.”

The family has been granted permission to complete modifications on the house where Steve (right) and his wife, Julie (left) had resided, which will allow him to return.

Bobby told the newspaper that Steve visits home for a few hours every eight weeks, but his family believes he may return permanently next summer.

The family has been granted permission to complete improvements that will allow Steve to return to the home he shared with his wife, Julie.

Once improvements are complete, Steve will initially return home on weekends. After then, it is unknown what his at-home care plan will entail.

The family has earned almost £35,000 for renovations through a fundraising campaign. Bobby is hopeful that an additional £30,000 may be raised.

He states that the ‘love and support’ he and his family have received throughout Steve’s treatment has ‘kept me standing’

Bobby is aiming to establish the Bobby and Steve Foundation, which he claims will assist those with neurological disorders.
