Police investigate the deadly stabbing of a Geluksdal Secondary School student

The murder of a Grade 10 student from Geluksdal Secondary School in Brakpan, east of Johannesburg, is under investigation, said Gauteng education MEC Matome Chiloane on Thursday.

According to the department, a fight broke out after three 10th graders allegedly began spraying other students with pepper spray during school hours.

“After around eight students addressed them about their behavior, they ceased. “However, it is alleged that the perpetrators emerged after school in the company of unknown non-school-affiliated individuals,” Matome explained.

Again, a fight broke out between the group and some of the students.

“Unfortunately, a fatal stab wound claimed the life of one of the students. A second student is said to have escaped with minor injuries, while one of the alleged attackers had severe injuries. The injured were transported by ambulance to Pholosong Hospital,” said Matome, who intends to visit the deceased’s residence and the school.

“We are profoundly saddened by the untimely death of one of our students, especially as a result of such a brutal crime.

“We disapprove greatly of students fighting among themselves. We offer our condolences to the afflicted family and the whole school community.”
