Paul Pelosi’s California Highway Patrol Foundation membership is terminated following DUI collision

Paul Pelosi’s “lifetime membership” in the California Highway Patrol 11-99 (CHP 11-99) Foundation was cancelled after he tried to win the officers’ favour by showing them his membership card after his DUI arrest in May.

However, the CHP 11-99 Foundation, which accepts membership fees ranging from $3,000 to $100,000, has said that Pelosi’s arrest “reflected adversely” on the organisation.

On Wednesday, Pelosi received a letter informing her of his departure from the organisation.

Police officers are informed by the card Pelosi displayed that he is a life member of a foundation that supports the patrol.

He must surrender all CHP 11-99 membership materials that he now has, including the substantial metallic membership vehicles that he flashed to the arresting officer, in addition to having his membership cancelled.

The board and staff of the CHP 11-99 Foundation said in a statement that “after examining the circumstances that [lead] to Mr. Pelosi’s arrest and conviction, we are cancelling Mr. Pelosi’s lifetime membership with the CHP 11-99 Foundation effective immediately.”

The statement from the organisation continued, “The mere presentation of his 11-99 Foundation identification credentials to law enforcement made it appear that he was presenting them for preferential treatment whether that was the case or not, which violates the terms and conditions he agreed to on his membership application.”

These acts, it said, “reflected badly on the 11-99 Foundation and undercut our vital objective.”

Pelosi had been requested to “return any membership goods he was granted upon joining the 11-99 Foundation,” the Foundation said. He will get his donation back after we receive all of the returned membership products.

With the intention of provide emergency aid to California Highway Patrol personnel and scholarships to their kids, the CHP 11-99 was established in 1982.

The foundation takes great pleasure in its impeccable reputation, and anyone asking for membership must submit to background checks on their criminal and driving histories.

Pelosi admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level of 0.082%, which was slightly above the legal limit. However, the test was conducted after Pelosi had collided his Porsche with another car on a route in Napa County.

He can be seen slurring his speech when showing the CHP Foundation card and asking the cops whether they recognise him in the video of the arrest.

When Pelosi was questioned about his licence, he produced it and put his “11-99 Foundation card” below. The 11-99 Foundation offers scholarships to the kids of CHP personnel as well as emergency financial aid.

The officer took notice of how he gave Pelosi the card right back while holding onto his licence.

The 11-99 Foundation issued a statement on Thursday saying, “We’d want to remind all our members and the public that the goal of 11-99 membership is to demonstrate support for the sacrifice and life-saving effort CHP workers carry out everyday around the state to keep our families safe.”

“We will continue to investigate any reported breach of our membership terms and conditions with due diligence and terminate any member who is found to have done so.”

On Tuesday, Pelosi admitted to being a drunk driver in the Napa Valley collision.

As for the crash, his wife, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has disassociated herself from it by stating that she was in Rhode Island at the time.

Around 10.15 p.m., Pelosi drove out in front of a Jeep at a crossroads, causing a collision that sent both vehicles careening off the road in Yountville, California, close to the junction of Route 29 and Oakville Cross Road.

Pelosi was discovered inside her damaged silver Porsche Carrera 4S when police arrived, according to the thorough California Highway Patrol report written by officer Jesus Perez. She was also reportedly smelled of alcohol.

Pelosi claimed to the police that he had “momentarily” halted at a stop sign before “went for it” after finding what he believed to be a gap.

He explained how Jesus Lopez, 48, of Calistoga, California, lost control after hitting his vehicle with a white Jeep and spinning it out of control.

The identity of the witness who reported seeing Pelosi’s Porsche “suddenly speed” into the path of the Jeep was redacted. The Porsche crossed “far too rapidly,” according to the eyewitness.

Perez said Pelosi was able to exit the vehicle on his own, but when requested to go a few steps to get his insurance documents, he showed signs of being ‘unsteady’ on his feet.

According to the police report, when asked whether he had consumed alcohol and when he had last eaten, Pelosi, 82, said that he had recently had a meal of pork chops and salad, followed by a dessert, while having supper with friends who lived nearby.

The buddy’s identity was withheld from the report, but Alexander Mehran, a devoted friend and supporter of Democratic ideals, had already been made public.

He also acknowledged that he had a glass of champagne at 7 o’clock before eating, followed an hour later by a glass of wine with supper. At the scene of the collision, he declined to submit to a breath test.

Pelosi went on to say that he takes “half a dozen” different kinds of medicine, including statins (which decrease cholesterol) and uloric (which is given to patients with gout).

Officer Perez claims that during the walk to his police vehicle for the sobriety tests, Pelosi had to grab onto his shoulder because he “visibly swayed” during the balance test and had to clutch onto the patrol car during the one-leg test, all of which were captured on dashcam footage.

The following objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication were visible during Perez’s conversation with Pelosi: “Both of his eyes were red/watery, his speech was slurred, he had a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person, and he failed to provide logical answers to multiple questions I asked,” Perez wrote in his report.

After failing the exams, Pelosi consented to a blood test before being placed in double handcuffs and transferred to the Napa County Jail, where Perez left him with one hand shackled to a bench in a briefing room.

Then, after receiving medical attention at Queen of the Valley hospital, he was driven back to the prison, where he complained of wrist discomfort brought on by the handcuffs.

On May 29, Pelosi was finally arrested at 12.32 a.m. After being shamefacedly photographed in a brown suit, he was released from custody at 4.30 a.m.

According to reports, Lopez, the second driver, acknowledged to drinking one Bud Light at a family funeral earlier in the day, which led police to believe that he could possibly have been intoxicated. Police determined that he was not, however, when he passed a field sobriety test.

Pelosi received time off to make up for the six hours he spent in the jail the night of his arrest on Tuesday when he was finally sentenced to three years of probation and five days in the Napa County Jail.

Due to their proximity to midnight, the six hours were considered to constitute two days under California law, albeit two of those days were later erased for good behaviour. The fifth day will be devoted to doing volunteer work.

The House speaker’s husband is required to participate in a three-month drinking and driving course and complete an eight-hour court work programme as part of Pelosi’s probation.

He was fined $150 and ordered to install an ignition interlock device on his car for a year.

Lopez has remained silent about the situation, subsequently using California’s Marsy’s Law, which safeguards the victim’s right to privacy and gives them the opportunity to seek recompense from the perpetrator if found guilty.

Following the crash, he sustained minor injuries to his right arm, right shoulder, and neck.
