Nancy Pelosi’s spouse pleads guilty to DUI misdemeanor

Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, entered a guilty plea on Tuesday to a charge of DUI with harm stemming from an incident in Northern California in May.

He was given a five-day prison term and three years of probation, but he won’t spend any further time in jail.

Judge Joseph Solga of the Napa County Superior Court said that Paul Pelosi had previously spent two days in prison and had been given behaviour credit for two further days. Paul Pelosi did not attend Paul Pelosi’s sentence, but Solga said that Paul Pelosi would spend eight hours in the court’s labour programme in place of the remaining day.

Unless the judge orders otherwise, state law permits defendants charged with a minor DUI to appear via their counsel.

Paul Pelosi’s probation also includes installing an ignition interlock device, which requires a breath sample before the engine can start, and attending a three-month drinking driving course. The court also ordered him to pay penalties totaling about $7,000 in total.

When an accident on May 28 in Napa County, north of San Francisco, Pelosi was taken into custody after a DUI test revealed he had a blood alcohol level of.082%, slightly above the legal limit.

According to the complaint, when police arrived at the scene of the collision around 10 p.m. in the town of Yountville in the wine region, they saw him sitting in the driver’s seat of a 2021 Porsche Carrera and the other driver standing outside of a sport utility vehicle.

Pelosi was described as being “unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a distinct stench of an alcoholic beverage” by California Highway Patrol officials.

When questioned for identification, Pelosi gave cops his driver’s licence and a “11-99 Foundation” card, according to the lawsuit. The 11-99 Foundation provides assistance to the families of CHP workers.

The misdemeanour charge was brought by the prosecution because the SUV’s 48-year-old driver was hurt. Since the driver desired anonymity, they chose not to reveal his or her identity.

The day after the collision, the driver told investigators from the district attorney’s office that his upper right arm, right shoulder, and neck hurt. He claimed to also get headaches.

Pelosi was arrested and later freed on a $5,000 bond. At the time, Speaker Pelosi was in Rhode Island for the graduation speech at Brown University. Her staff refuses to respond to questions.
