The recently released footage from Texas depicts the harrowing moments after a drunk driver, Dylan Molina, ran a red light and collided with off-duty police officer Alex Cervantes and his family, resulting in Cervantes’ death and severe injuries to his wife and two sons.
The video shows a Good Samaritan, Justin Gonzalez, chasing down Molina and holding him to the ground to prevent him from fleeing the scene.
In an interview, Gonzalez apologizes for using profanity but explains that his fatherly instincts kicked in when he witnessed the devastating crash.
The video also shows Molina pacing around the accident site before attempting to escape, and footage from a bar before the accident reveals that Molina had been overserved 8 double vodka Red Bulls and 16 single shots.
After the collision, a bartender was arrested for overserving alcohol, and Molina was sentenced to 15 years.
Despite the conviction, Cervantes’ wife, Priscilla, acknowledges that it cannot bring her husband back but hopes it will prevent others from experiencing a similar tragedy.
