Police continue to investigate the death of Vusi Ma R5, a Pretoria-based DJ and producer.
The Bacardi king, whose real name is Itumeleng Mosoeu, was shot to death in Soshanguve, Gauteng, in the early hours of Monday, January 30.
Tribal Records, his management, sent a statement to The South African.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the demise of Vusi Ma R5, a beloved and gifted musician whose music inspired numerous fans and fellow musicians.
“The artist, Itumeleng Mosoeu, allegedly met with an unfortunate incident that resulted in his untimely death early on Monday, January 30, 2023,” the statement said in part.
The Mosoeu family also requested privacy and sensitivity at this time of mourning.

Koketso Mosoeu, also known as DJ Cooper, brother of Vusi Ma R5, told SowetanLIVE that they learned of the producer’s death via social media.
“I was then awakened by a group of individuals who informed me that they had just seen on Twitter that someone who could be my brother had just been shot, and that I must accompany them to identify the body.
“I am speechless; I cannot express the depth of my heartache, and I have no idea how I will recover from what I witnessed.”
According to TshisaLIVE, police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello stated that the murder of Vusi Ma r5 was still under investigation because no suspects had been detained.
“According to accounts, the victim was seated with his buddies outside ext13 bar in Soshanguve when he crossed the street to his vehicle. “When the others allegedly heard gunshots and went to investigate, they discovered the victim on the ground,” she added.
Sello urged those with knowledge to come forward.
She said, “The police request that anyone with information about this incident contact their local police station or call 08600 10111 to report it.”
