Yemen drone strike kills three suspected members of Al-Qaeda

Local government officials reported that three alleged Al-Qaeda members were killed by a suspected US drone strike in northeastern Yemen on Monday.

The strike was carried out against a vehicle in Marib province, the scene of intense combat in 2021 during Yemen’s protracted civil war, according to officials.

“Three Al-Qaeda members were reportedly killed in a strike by an American drone,” a government official told AFP on the condition of anonymity.

“The three were in a car in Wadi Obeida when they were immediately killed by a suspected US airstrike.”

A second official from the Marib government verified the attack on Al-Qaeda militants and the dead toll. Washington provided no quick response.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) is considered one of the most dangerous branches of the worldwide jihadist network by the United States.

AQAP and other Islamic State-aligned terrorists have prospered in Yemen’s civil conflict, which pits the Saudi-backed government against the Iran-backed Huthi rebels.

AQAP has conducted operations against Huthi and government forces, in addition to irregular attacks abroad.

The US has waged a drone war against its leaders for more than two decades, although the number of strikes has decreased in recent years.

Additionally, Spain is shocked by deadly church attacks.

Since 2015, when a Saudi-led coalition intervened to support the government after the Huthis seized control of the capital Sanaa, Yemen has been beset by conflict.

Since then, the fighting has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of individuals and precipitated what the United Nations calls the world’s biggest humanitarian crisis, with millions of people displaced.
