Al Qaeda members claim theft on the police

The Jouberton Station Commander is said to have stolen money from people who are allegedly associated with the so-called Al Qaeda group in a video that is making the rounds on social media, according to the North West police.

According to Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, a spokesperson for the South African Police Service (SAPS), the station commander who is accused of stealing in the video was not on the squad of police who detained the suspects and seized their property, including money and a vehicle.

In the video, a confrontation between police officers and a group of guys demanding the return of their “R30,000” results in a furious argument.

The two-minute movie features a lot of shoving and coarse language.

Al Qaeda members accuse police of being unfair after an unjust arrest on Saturday, saying they were in possession of money, a car, and other goods.

The Flying Squad was dispatched to Extension 7 in Jouberton on Saturday, July 23, according to a police spokesperson, following a report of a group of individuals extorting money from tuckshop proprietors.

“The members halted on their route to handle the complaint when they saw two strange vehicles: a Toyota Avanza and a BMW.

The occupants fled when they saw the police, but two were apprehended right away, and the third was apprehended later, according to Mokgwabone.

The BMW included a plastic bag with money inside of it. Officials claim that when the suspects were escorted to the police station, they refused to watch or take part in the counting of the bag’s contents, which included R3900 in cash.

The suspects were detained for extortion and having dangerous weapons, and the money was recorded in the exhibit register.

Asked for complaintors to file a case

On Monday, July 25, Tshepo Gaborone, Paseka Sephanyane, and Thabiso Motlhanke—the individuals who had been detained—appeared before the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court.

They were each granted an R500 bond and are scheduled to appear in court once more on August 30.

“Neither the squad that made the arrest nor the team that counted the money included the station commander.

He did, however, give the go-ahead for the towing and storage of the BMW.

The police spokeswoman advised the complainants to file a formal report so that it can be looked into.

Paul Ndamoyi, the suspected Al Qaeda gang’s late leader, was laid to rest over the weekend in Jouberton.

On Friday, July 15, he was shot and killed in the street by unidentified assailants.
