EFF denounces the slaying of Bacardi hitmaker Vusi Ma R5

Pioneering Pretoria musician Vusi Ma R5 was reportedly murdered over the weekend. Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) denounced the assassination.

Vusi Ma R5, who is linked to the surge in popularity of the Bacardi House (often referred to as just Bacardi), was the singer responsible for the hit songs Thaba Ke changitse and Tse nnyane.

The musician, whose true name is Itumeleng Mosoeu, was reportedly gunned down outside a venue in Soshanguve in the early hours of Monday.

“Today, the music industry is awoken by yet another senseless murder that continues to rob South Africa of its native music makers.

“Vus Ma R5, a musician from Tshwane, not only put Tshwane on the map in terms of the development of its entertainment industry, but he also proved that black youths with the will to succeed can overcome obscurity and achieve great success,” the EFF stated in a statement.

The most recent musician murder follows the November 2022 murder of amapiano producer DJ Sumbody, a Tshwane-based artist and producer. There have been no arrests made in relation with the homicide.

The EFF stated that it would continue to urge the coalition administration in Tshwane to deploy surveillance cameras to enhance the safety of its citizens. In addition, we urge law enforcement officials to act decisively and catch the murderers of Vusi Ma R5.
