Michaela Coel to cast in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ As queer character

On Saturday, July 23, Marvel unveiled the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer, which has now received more than 20 million YouTube views. The poignant teaser paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman, an American actor who lost his fight with illness in August 2020.

In the Black Panther sequel, British actress Michaela Coel, well known for her series I May Destroy You, will portray an LGBT role. According to PinkNews, Coel’s character in the comic book is in a love relationship with another character.

The fact that Michaela Coel would be a part of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was made public in 2021, but the specifics of her character remained a mystery.

According to Vulture, Michaela Coel will portray the martial warrior Aneka. Aneka is a female warrior trainer and a member of the Midnight Angels, the Black Panther’s personal bodyguards, in the 2010 comic book.

According to PinkNews, Aneka and Ayo (played by Florence Kasuma) have an enemies-to-lovers story in the comics, although it is unknown if they will connect romantically on screen.

On November 11, the movie is scheduled for release.

Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia in Black Panther, said to The Hollywood Reporter that the ensemble is still coming to terms with Chadwick Boseman’s passing.

“When you lose someone, I don’t know when you stop missing them. And of course, we felt it so much, making this film without him,” explained the Oscar-winning actress.

“To make this film against all odds is a powerful statement unto itself and I am very proud that we did it. It was very therapeutic. It restored a sense of hope for me in making it and I think we’ve expanded the world of Wakanda in ways that will blow people’s minds.”

Chadwick Boseman’s influence on the entertainment business, according to Ryan Coogler, will last a lifetime. He made this statement on July 23 at the San Diego Comic-Con in California.

“I promise you; I can feel his band on me right now.”

“His spirit, his passion, his genius, his pride in his culture and the impact he made on his industry, it will be felt forever.”
