Mark Pilgrim: Radio broadcaster in mind on World Cancer Day

The popular DJ Mark Pilgrim has been in South Africans’ thoughts and prayers in recent months, but never more so than on Saturday, 4 February 2023.

It is World Cancer Day today.

According to The South African website, Pilgrim has been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, which he disclosed in June 2022 had progressed to his femur, the base of his spine, and his lymph nodes.

In his continuous battle against the deadly illness, he has issued regular social media health updates to his followers.

The Hot102.7fm radio DJ informed his Twitter and Instagram followers on Thursday that his “body was depleted” in his most recent tweet.

The 53-year-old, who once worked at 5FM, 94.7 Highveld Stereo, 94.5 Kfm, and Hot91, continued, ‘after chemo and immuno last Thursday, it’s been gushing out of the ends’

Pilgrim wrote: “I’ve been sleeping a lot over the past few days. Body feels exhausted. Since chemotherapy and immunotherapy last Thursday, I’ve been oozing out of my pores. I’m as shriveled as a pea.

Meanwhile, according to The South African website, Pilgrim proposed to his partner Adrienne Watkins on New Year’s Eve of last year, shortly after he was discharged from hospital after spending 64 days in ICU, during which he lost about 15kg.
