Mark Pilgrim was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer almost a year ago, for the second time after overcoming testicular cancer more than three decades prior.
In the past year, the host of Hot 102.7 has undergone a rigorous treatment regimen involving radiation, immunotherapy, and chemotherapy. In addition to having his lungs emptied frequently, he is scheduled to begin a new Dutch medicine as part of his focused therapy.
After spending over 60 days in the hospital last year, the presenter has shed over 15 kilograms. He now requires a walking stick to get around as well.
In his most recent social media post, Mark Pilgrim said that he wants to “keep it real” despite his reputation for using motivational pearls of wisdom and frank humor to motivate his followers during his own cancer struggle.
Sharing a photo of himself in pain and holding a walking stick, he wrote, “Just keeping things real. I smile frequently in photographs. However, there are times after coughing or vomiting that leave me weary and need a moment to regain my breath. It’s about recognizing those moments… and then getting back up.”
In an interview with The South African, Mark Pilgrim disclosed his New Year’s resolutions.
He stated, “I wish to be healthy. I wish to be cured. I wish to return to radio.”
After proposing to his girlfriend Adrienne Watkins on New Year’s Eve, Mark expressed his desire to be totally recovered.
He said, “I hope to be strong enough to stand at the altar!”
