Mamelodi Sundowns secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Copperbelts Ladies in the Hollywoodbets Super League on Sunday, extending their perfect start to the season.
Lelona Daweti, Boitumelo Rabale, Melinda Kgadiete, and Andisiwe Mgcoyi scored for the Banyana Ba Style, who put on a comprehensive attacking display.
Coach Jerry ‘Kappa’ Tshabalala fielded Andile Dlamini in goal and defence of Zanele Nhlapho, Tiisetso Makhubela, Bambanani Mbane, and Karabo Dlamini.
The midfield consisted of Oratile Mokwena, Boitumelo Rabale, and Nonhlanhla Mthandi, with Lehlogonolo Mashigo, Lelona Daweti, and Melinda Kgadiete leading the attack.
Sundowns dominated the first half, holding most of the possession and territory, and scoring two goals from Daweti and Rabale. In the second half, Kgadiete added a third goal before being replaced by Mgcoyi, who quickly scored the fourth. Although Copperbelts Ladies scored a late goal, Sundowns Ladies sealed their fourth win of the season.
Nonhlanhla Mthandi expressed her happiness with the team’s performance, saying that facing a newly promoted team was challenging, but they remained composed and played to their strengths. She stated that scoring the first goal was crucial to settle their nerves and establishing control.
Andisiwe Mgcoyi was delighted with her performance off the bench and her first goal of the season. She expressed her excitement and hopes to build on it in upcoming matches. Bambanani Mbane hailed the team’s overall performance, despite conceding a goal from a defensive standpoint. She believes that this result will motivate them to perform even better in the games to come.
Lehlogonolo Mashigo was named Player of the Match, despite not getting on the scoresheet. Sundowns Ladies’ victory maintained their perfect start to the season, with four consecutive wins and 12 points, putting them at the top of the table. Their next game is against TS Galaxy.
