Fetty Wap pleads guilty, faces 5-year sentence

After entering a guilty plea to a narcotics conspiracy charge on Monday, rapper Fetty Wap now faces a minimum sentence of five years in jail. The plea was entered in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven Locke on Central Islip, Long Island.

According to court documents, the 31-year-old, whose real name is William Junior Maxwell II, and five other people were detained in October and accused of “conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances, including cocaine, fentanyl, and heroin.”

Maxwell entered a guilty plea to the charge on Monday, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in jail.

Maxwell is still in custody because he declined to ask to be released on bond. According to a spokesman of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, no sentencing date has been set.

Authorities assert that between June 2019 and June 2020, Maxwell and five more individuals distributed 100 kilos of illicit narcotics from the West Coast to Long Island and New Jersey using the U.S. Postal Service and vehicles with concealed compartments.

The narcotics are said to have been given to traffickers when they reached Long Island. Maxwell was charged with working for the trafficking ring as a kilogram-level redistributor.

Maxwell’s co-defendants have already entered guilty pleas to charges related to the case against them. Robert Leonardi and Anthony Cyntje both entered guilty pleas to charges of conspiring to distribute and possess controlled narcotics as well as a charge involving guns.

The most popular song of Maxwell is “Trap Queen,” which peaked at number one on the charts and won him two Grammy nominations in 2015. His 2015 self-titled album’s songs “My Way,” “679,” and “Again” all made it into the Billboard Top 100 that year.
