The U.S. will be delivering Ukraine its biggest security package to date, worth at $3 billion, according to President Biden’s announcement on Wednesday.
The news was made on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine six months before.
The financing for the package will come via the Ukraine Security Assistance (USAI) mechanism, which means the U.S. won’t just take weapons from the Defense Department’s stockpile and deliver them right away but would instead purchase them through contracts.

I am happy to report that as part of that promise, the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative will send around $2.98 billion in weaponry and equipment, which is our largest tranche of security assistance to date “In a statement, Mr. Biden said.
As a result, Ukraine will be able to purchase radars, counter-unmanned aircraft systems, artillery systems, and ammunition to secure its long-term ability to protect itself.
In earlier security packages, the government included counter-artillery radar systems, surveillance drones, and medium-range air defence systems.
