Edo State Government holds creative writing contest in celebration of the Democracy day

To commemorate this year’s Democracy Day, the Edo State Government is holding a creative writing competition for private and public schools across the state.

The Edo State Ministry of Communication and Orientation, in partnership with the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board, is hosting the tournament (Edo-SUBEB).

The essay competition, themed ‘Democracy and the Nigerian Child,’ aims to tap into children’ creative writing abilities in the state.

The competition is open to students in Edo’s public and private schools in the senior primary (primary four to six) and junior secondary (JSS one to three) courses.

The essay competition is set to take place across the state’s 18 local government areas on Monday, June 13, 2022, with an award ceremony to follow.

According to a statement signed by Mrs. Rose Imonike, Director of Orientation and Chairman of the contest’s organizing committee, the grand finale/awards event will take place at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub in Benin City at 10:00 a.m.

Imonike advised interested schools to register the number of pupils and students attending the grand finale/awards event by filling out the form at https://forms.gle/oDnpvtFju5Rj6TRV8 or scanning the QR code.

She expressed confidence in the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government’s commitment to continuing education reforms targeted at combating learning poverty and ensuring that every Edo child is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to compete with their global peers.
